Humans have been impressed by elephants for centuries, simply because they are so big—a male African elephant can weigh up to tons ( metric tons)! They also amaze us with their long and flexible noses, large and flapping ears, and loose, wrinkly skin. There are many stories about elephants—you’ve probably heard of Horton, Babar. Elephants are the largest land animals on Earth, so it's no surprise that they're pretty heavy! There are actually two different types of elephants.

The weight of an elephant varies based on the species and age. An adult African elephant is relatively larger than its Asian cousin and can weigh up to kgs (ab lbs or 7 tons). This makes it the heaviest land animal on the planet. The Asian species of elephant can weigh up to kgs (ab lbs or approximately tons). The villagers have access to the simple balance scale and they have objects that they know weigh a kilogram as a standard. But there is no scale large enough to weigh the elephant. They have an understanding of Archimedes' principle, but if they submerge the elephant in the ocean it will die and plus, it's an open system and they can't measure.

This book introduces the theory of displacement of liquids - the Eureka principle. A king wants to weigh his favourite elephant, but none of his courtiers could figure out a device that was strong enough or big enough to hold the gigantic animal. Finally, a little girl, Lilavati, comes up with a simple yet, brilliant solution. African elephants can range from 5, pounds to more t pounds (6, kilograms). According to the World Wildlife Fund, an average African elephant weighs ab pounds (5, kilograms). Even a baby African elephant can weigh between pounds ( kilograms) at birth! The largest African elephants can stand in excess.
