In February or March of , Sypert's and Chenoweth's Cavalry units, due to dwindling numbers, were consolidated with the 3rd, 7th, 8th and 12th Kentucky Cavalry units. The 3rd, 7th, and 8th were originally infantry units from Western Kentucky that were mounted in to serve in Forrest's Cavalry Corp. Col. David Walker Chenault recruited men into what became the 11th Kentucky Cavalry, CSA. A large number of men signed up, and Col. Chenault became the unit’s commander.
